Story

Three Peaks Challenge for the Earthquake Relief Project fund

It’s been 16 months since the devastating earthquake hit Nepal killing over 9,000 people and destroying close to a half a million buildings. It is a great sadness to see that around 90% of affected people are still living in temporary shelters made from plastic sheeting/tarpaulins and corrugated sheets. Their struggles during sweltering heat of summer, torrential rain in monsoon and freezing temperature dropping into minus figures in winter has gone unnoticed the government.  The reconstruction works has been massively delayed due to lack of resources and funding.  This means, most of the victims will have to endure 2nd year winter, shivering in their temporary shelter with suffering from colds and coughs.  It is heart wrenching for us to see our village where we grew up and lived until joining the British Army in such a miserable state.

On 17-18 Aug 16, a team of four, three brothers (Dr Padam Simkhada - from Liverpool University, Maj Bishnu- HQ ARRC/QGE and Sgt Bharat - QGS Blanford) and Bishnu's son Mr Asbin - Student of Birmingham University supported by our two friends, Sgt Ganesh and LCpl Nawaraj  from HQ ARRC) are taking part on the Three Peaks challenge to raise funds to rebuild urgently needed community house and medical treatment rooms at Gumdi in Dhading, Nepal.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours -Ben Nevis (1,334m) in Scotland, Scafell Pike (978m) in England and Mt Snowdon (1,085m) in Wales. The team will start their ascent of Ben Nevis on Wednesday 17 Aug at 8am, then travel to Scafell Pike for a 6Pm climb and finally conquer Snowdon on early morning with the descent of this last mountain completed by 8am on Thursday 18 Aug 2016. This is a considerable physical and psychological challenge that will test the most of us.Our goal is to raise £12000.00 to support earthquake victims and rebuilding works in Dhading. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile campaign. Your donations will go towards the earthquake relief registered charitable Organisation - Pahar Trust Nepal (www.pahar-trust.org) who will provide an assistance and support for the planned project.  Please donate generously and spread the word - there is still much work to be done. We will continue to provide updates and information regarding the project and funds on our website and Facebook pages. Thank you for your support and generosity!
